What is a tutor job in Bengaluru?

It means one learner at a time, taught at their home in your part of Bengaluru or online from wherever you sit. You teach what you already carry in your head: Class 8 maths, II PU physics, accountancy for a commerce student, spoken English for someone who has just moved here for work. The timetable is whatever you and the learner agree on. In a city where a weekday evening ride from Jayanagar to Whitefield can swallow an hour, it pays to keep your home lessons near where you live and let the far ones happen online.

  • One learner at a time, at their home or online, in the syllabus you know best.
  • You choose your week: weekday evenings after work, or weekend mornings.
  • Karnataka holds Class 10 and II PU board exams in three attempts, so the teaching year runs well past March.
  • Open to college students, graduates, postgraduates and retired teachers.
  • Edutara pays you per lesson, at the rate on each class offer

What tutoring here asks of you

Nothing about paperwork below. This is what a Bengaluru learner sitting across the table from you actually needs.

The subject in your hands

  1. One syllabus you can teach without looking it up: a board, a few classes, and the question paper that follows them.
  2. Comfort in the language the learner studies in, which in this city is usually English and sometimes Kannada.
  3. A feel for where a chapter breaks down, which counts for more than finishing it on time.

The way you teach

  1. Patience for a room of one, where nobody else carries the lesson when the learner goes quiet.
  2. A second explanation ready when the first one slides past.
  3. Steadiness across the Karnataka calendar, which turns from board papers into KCET and COMEDK season and back again.

Getting there, or going online

  1. For home lessons, a set of areas you can reach on a weekday evening without giving an hour to the road.
  2. For online lessons, a laptop or phone with a connection that holds, and a corner where it is quiet.
  3. Some way to write while you explain: a notebook under the camera, a tablet, or a whiteboard app.

Unsure about a point? Apply anyway, and we will read your application before any match is made.

Why Join Us

Why tutoring suits this city

Bengaluru is built in a way that makes one-to-one teaching workable around a job, a degree or a long retirement.

Teach on your own side of town

You name the areas you take home lessons in, so Whitefield stays Whitefield and Jayanagar stays Jayanagar, and no evening goes to a cross-city ride.

Your own degree is the qualification

An engineering seat, a PU science background, a B.Com or an arts degree each line up with a syllabus that schools and PU colleges here teach every year.

Online lessons ignore the Outer Ring Road

A learner in Yelahanka and a tutor in Basavanagudi meet online, and the hour that the ORR would have taken stays yours.

Hours that sit around a working week

School lessons mostly happen after five in the evening and on weekend mornings, which is exactly the time a job in an office or a college timetable leaves free.

The city keeps arriving from elsewhere

Children who land here mid-school meet a new board and a Kannada language subject in the same term, and that gap is something a tutor can close.

Explaining holds your subject in place

Saying II PU physics or Class 10 trigonometry out loud, week after week, keeps your own grip on it while you study or work.

Tutor Application Process

How you start teaching with Edutara

Four plain stages, from the form you fill to the first class you sit down for. There is nothing to pay at any of them.

  1. Send in your application

    A few minutes

You say what you teach, the classes you are at home with, whether you want home lessons or online ones, and the parts of Bengaluru you can get to.

  2. An email comes back to you

It goes to the address you applied with and tells you what happens next, so keep an eye on the inbox and on the spam folder.

  3. Someone reads what you sent

Your application is gone through by hand: which board, which classes, which subjects, and how far across the city you are willing to travel.

  4. A learner, then a first class

When Edutara connects you with a learner who needs what you teach, the first class is a trial. If it works, the lessons carry on and Edutara pays you for each one.

Applying is free, and joining stays free.

8 questions answered
  1. I teach at a school in Bengaluru. Can I take tuitions as well?

While you are on the staff of a school, the law keeps you out of private tuition. **Section 28** of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 bars a teacher serving in a school from private tuition or private teaching, and it makes no difference whether the school follows CBSE, ICSE or the state board. Retired teachers are very welcome here, and so is anybody teaching outside the school system, along with college students, graduates and people working in offices around the city.

  2. Do I need a teaching qualification to apply?

There is no fixed qualification to clear. What is asked of you is that you can teach the syllabus in front of you and keep a learner with you through it. A student in the second year of a degree at one of the city's colleges applies on the same footing as a postgraduate, an engineer working in Electronic City, or a teacher who has retired from a school.

  3. How am I paid for lessons?

Edutara pays you for every lesson you teach. Each class offer states its rate before you accept it, whether the learner is ten minutes away in your own layout or across town on a screen, and Edutara charges you nothing to apply or to keep teaching.

  4. I work in tech through the week. Can I still tutor?

Yes. School lessons in this city sit in the evening after five and on weekend mornings, which is the part of the week an office job leaves open, so one or two learners fit into it. If your commute is already long, online lessons remove the second journey, and you can hold them from home on the same evenings.

  5. Which boards and exams will I be teaching for?

The city carries CBSE and ICSE schools, Karnataka SSLC schools, PU colleges running the I and II PU syllabus, and IGCSE and IB campuses towards Whitefield and Sarjapur Road. On top of that sit the entrance papers a PU science student takes: KCET from the Karnataka Examinations Authority, COMEDK UGET for the private engineering colleges, and NEET-UG or JEE Main for those looking outside the state. You teach the ones you know.

  6. Do I have to know Kannada to teach in Bengaluru?

Most lessons in the city run in English, so Kannada is not a condition for teaching maths or physics. It does open work of its own: every school in Karnataka teaches Kannada as a language, and children whose families moved here from another state often need help catching up with it. If you read and write Kannada comfortably, say so when you apply.

  7. How far will I have to travel for a home lesson?

As far as you choose, and no further. You name the areas you are willing to take, and Bengaluru distances are a good reason to keep that list tight: a few neighbourhoods around your own, or the ones sitting on your metro line. The Purple, Green and Yellow lines of Namma Metro make some of those runs easy, and anything further across the city is better taught online.

  8. When does the teaching year get busy here?

Karnataka's calendar sets it. II PU papers come around the turn of February and March, SSLC follows, and KCET and COMEDK land in the weeks after the PU exams. Because the state runs Exam 1, Exam 2 and Exam 3 for Class 10 and 2nd PU, students who want a better score keep working into the months that follow, so the teaching does not stop with the first paper. KSEAB and KEA publish each year's dates, so check them before you plan a batch of lessons.
