What is a CBSE tutor job?

A CBSE tutor job at Edutara is part-time, one-to-one teaching for a learner who studies under the Central Board of Secondary Education. You teach from the NCERT books the school uses, keep pace with the school's internal assessment through the year, and prepare the learner for the board's paper pattern, which now gives about half its marks to competency-based questions. Edutara brings you the learner, sets the fee with them, and pays you for each lesson you teach.

  • Lessons follow the NCERT textbooks, lab manuals and Exemplar Problems that CBSE prescribes.
  • Class 9 and 10 learners carry Maths, Science, Social Science and two or three languages at once.
  • From Class 10 in 2026, CBSE holds a main board exam in February and a second exam in May.
  • Class 11 and 12 learners keep the same five main subjects across both years.
Requirements

What a strong CBSE tutor brings

CBSE rewards a tutor who knows the NCERT chapter, the marking scheme and the school calendar. Check yourself against this list. College students are welcome to apply.

Group 1

Command of the NCERT books

  • You can teach a chapter straight from the NCERT textbook and finish with its exercises and Exemplar problems.
  • For Science, you can talk a learner through the experiments in the NCERT lab manual.
  • You can teach both Maths Standard and Maths Basic to a Class 10 learner on the current two-level paper, and know that Basic leads to Applied Mathematics in Class 11.
  • For Class 11 and 12, you know the theory part and the 30-mark practical part of Physics, Chemistry or Biology.
Group 2

Feel for the CBSE paper

  • You can set case-based, source-based and data-reading questions in the style the board now favours.
  • You understand the 20-mark internal assessment: periodic tests, multiple assessment, portfolio and subject enrichment.
  • You know that a learner needs 33 percent in each component, theory and internal, to pass.
  • You can work back from the board calendar so revision peaks before February.
Group 3

Patience with one learner

  • You explain the same idea three ways until it lands, then let the learner try it alone.
  • You can teach in English, in Hindi, or in both, since CBSE allows either medium in Class 9 and 10.
Group 4

Ready for online lessons too

  • For online classes, a device with camera and microphone and a connection that holds a video call.
  • A whiteboard app or a shared screen to work through an NCERT diagram or a sum with the learner.

Meet most of these? Apply, and you will get an email with the next steps.

Benefits

Why CBSE tutors teach with Edutara

CBSE keeps a learner busy across the whole year, from internal tests to the May exam. That steady rhythm turns into steady classes for a tutor who knows the board.

Two peaks in the Class 10 year

Learners prepare for the main board exam in February, and many return in April and May to improve up to three subjects in the second exam.

One syllabus across India

The NCERT chapter you teach in one city is the same chapter a CBSE learner opens in any other, so your preparation carries from learner to learner.

Learners matched to your classes

Tell Edutara whether you teach primary CBSE, the Class 9 and 10 core, or a Class 11 and 12 subject, and the offers that reach you fit that range.

Hours that sit around college

CBSE school days end in the afternoon, so most classes fall in the evenings and at weekends, around your own lectures.

At the learner's home or online

Teach in your own area at the learner's home, or take a CBSE learner from another state over a video call with the same NCERT book open on both sides.

No fee talk with the learner

Edutara sets the lesson fee and collects it from the learner, so your time with the learner stays on chapters, tests and revision.

How to Join

From application to your first CBSE class

Five plain steps. No documents are asked for when you apply, and there is no test paper to sit before you meet a learner.

  1. Fill in the short form

    A few minutes

Apply for free with a short form. Mention the CBSE classes and subjects you teach and whether you prefer home lessons, online lessons or both.

  2. Watch your inbox

An email from Edutara arrives with the next steps for your application.

  3. Your application is reviewed

The Edutara team reads the CBSE classes and subjects you listed and holds your profile for the right learner.

  4. Meet a CBSE learner

Edutara puts you in touch with a CBSE learner who needs exactly what you teach. The first class is where you look over the learner's NCERT book, last test and school schedule, and Edutara pays you for it.

  5. Teach, log, get paid

Teach through the term, log each lesson after you finish it, and Edutara pays you for every lesson you teach at the rate on the offer you accepted.

Applying is free: no joining fee and no deposit. Once you teach, Edutara pays you per lesson.

FAQ

Questions CBSE tutors ask us

Straight answers on classes, the board calendar, the new paper pattern and how you are paid.

Any class from Class 1 to Class 12. Most requests are for the Class 9 and 10 core of Maths, Science and Social Science, and for Class 11 and 12 subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Accountancy, Economics and Computer Science. Pick the classes you are sure of.

From 2026, CBSE runs two board exams for Class 10. The main exam in mid-February is compulsory for everyone. A learner who passes may sit a second exam in May to improve in up to three subjects from Science, Mathematics, Social Science and the languages, and CBSE keeps the better of the two results. For a tutor, that means a second stretch of focused revision after the February results come out in April.

Yes, and it pays off. In Class 9 and 10, each major subject carries 20 internal marks beside the 80-mark board paper, built from periodic tests, multiple assessment, a portfolio and subject enrichment, and finished once before the main exams. A tutor who keeps that portfolio and those tests on track protects marks the board paper cannot add back.

From 2026-27, about half of a Class 9 and 10 board paper is competency-focused: case-based, source-based and integrated questions, data interpretation and application. Teach the NCERT concept first, then practise it on a short passage or a data table, the way the paper now asks.

For learners entering Class 9 in 2026-27, CBSE ends the Maths Standard and Maths Basic split. Maths and Science become one common 80-mark paper, plus an optional one-hour, 25-mark Advanced paper of higher-order questions, first sat at the Class 10 board in 2027-28. Class 10 learners of 2026-27 stay on the old scheme. A tutor who teaches both levels is in strong demand.

Yes. CBSE allows Hindi or English as the medium of instruction in Class 9 and 10, and NCERT books exist for both. Mention the medium you teach in when you apply, and Edutara matches you with learners who study in it.

Either, as you choose. Home classes happen at the learner's home in your area. Online classes are a live video call with one learner and their own NCERT book, using a shared screen or whiteboard app, with written answers held to the camera or sent as a photo.

The learner pays Edutara, and Edutara pays you for every lesson you teach and log. A Class 6 Science learner and a Class 12 Physics learner arrive as separate offers, and each offer shows its own rate before you say yes. Fees from CBSE learners go to Edutara only, and joining Edutara or receiving a learner costs you nothing.

Yes. Most CBSE classes run in the evening or at the weekend, after the school day. You set the days and times you can give, and you accept only the offers that fit them, so exam weeks at your own college stay protected.
