What is an ICSE tutor job?

An ICSE tutor job at Edutara is part-time, one-to-one teaching for a learner who sits the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations papers: the ICSE at Class 10 or the ISC at Class 12. Both are written in English, both run as two-year courses, and a share of every subject's marks comes from coursework the school assesses. The tutor teaches from the learner's own prescribed books and keeps pace with the projects, the oral work and the written papers together, so the learner reaches the board exam with the internal marks already in hand.

  • ICSE Group I and II subjects split 80 marks on the written paper and 20 for internal assessment
  • Group III subjects such as Computer Applications carry 50 percent school-assessed work
  • English is the pass gate at both ICSE and ISC, and clear expression counts in every subject
  • ICSE English Paper 1 includes assessed listening and a short speaking presentation
  • Physics, Chemistry and Biology are three separate ICSE papers, each with practical marks

What a strong ICSE tutor brings

CISCE papers reward precise English and steady coursework. Bring command of your subject, a feel for how the council marks it, and the patience to work through long answers line by line.

Command of the CISCE syllabus

  1. Confident in at least one ICSE or ISC subject, such as English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Computer Applications
  2. Comfortable with the Class 9 and Class 10 portions as one course, since the Class 10 paper sets only the Class 10 portion
  3. For ISC, able to teach Class 11 and 12 electives such as Mathematics, Accountancy, Commerce, Economics or Computer Science

English that holds up in every paper

  1. Writes clean, grammatical English, because the council counts clear expression in all subjects
  2. Can guide a 300 to 350 word ICSE composition, a formal letter, a notice and an email
  3. For ISC English, can coach directed writing such as a feature article, a report or a statement of purpose
  4. Helps learners turn a long unseen passage into a tight summary

Patience with coursework

  1. Keeps track of projects, practical files and written assignments across the year
  2. Rehearses the ICSE listening task and the two-minute speaking presentation with the learner
  3. Encourages original writing on the literature texts and leaves the learner's voice intact

Ready for online lessons

  1. A device with camera and microphone and a connection that holds a video call
  2. Can explain on a shared screen or whiteboard app and mark written answers held to the camera or sent as a photo

9 questions answered
  1. Which classes and levels do ICSE tutors teach at Edutara?

Mostly Class 9 and 10 for the ICSE and Class 11 and 12 for the ISC, the two examinations the council sets in English. Tutors who enjoy younger ICSE school learners in the primary and middle classes can say so when they apply.

  2. Do I need to teach every ICSE subject?

No single tutor is expected to. ICSE learners take at least six subjects, and most choose Science and Mathematics alongside English, a second language and History, Civics and Geography. Apply for the subjects you know well. A tutor for Physics alone, or for English Language and Literature together, is exactly what many learners ask for.

  3. How much of ICSE English is coursework?

A fair share. English Language and Literature in English are two papers of 80 marks each, and each carries 20 marks of internal assessment. For the language paper those 20 marks come from a listening task and a short speaking presentation with discussion. For literature they come from written assignments such as a character analysis or a diary entry in a character's voice. A good tutor rehearses both.

  4. Can I help with ICSE science projects and practical files?

Yes, and learners value it. Physics, Chemistry and Biology are three separate papers of 80 marks, each with 20 marks for practical work marked by the subject teacher and an external examiner. The council does not require working science models and holds no viva for ICSE projects, so your help goes into clear method, readings and write-up.

  5. What changes when an ICSE learner moves to ISC?

The learner picks English plus four or five electives, up to six subjects, and the pass mark rises to 35 percent from the ICSE's 33. ISC English theory papers run three hours, with a 400 to 450 word composition and directed writing pieces. Some pairs are barred, such as Mathematics with Applied Mathematics, so it helps to know the learner's chosen combination by the end of your first class.

  6. How does Edutara match me with an ICSE learner?

People at Edutara read what each learner needs: the class, the subjects, ICSE or ISC, and home or online. When that matches the subjects and areas on your application, Edutara contacts you with a class offer. You meet the learner at a first class that is paid like the rest, and the lessons carry on for as long as they keep working for the learner.

  7. Can I teach ICSE learners while I am still at college?

Yes. College students, graduates, retired teachers and teachers outside the school system all apply. Share the hours you are free around lectures and offers will fit them.

  8. How am I paid for ICSE tuition?

Your ICSE or ISC learner settles the lesson fees with Edutara, and Edutara pays you for each lesson you log, whether it was a Class 10 English revision or an ISC Physics practical session. The rate for that learner's subject and class is written on the offer, so you see it before you say yes. Money never passes from the learner to you, and teaching with Edutara costs you nothing.

  9. Which books will I teach from?

The learner's own. The council names the prescribed texts for English literature and otherwise leaves textbooks to each school, so bring the syllabus knowledge and use the books the learner's school has chosen.
