What is a Maths Tutor job at Edutara?

A Maths Tutor job at Edutara is part-time, one-to-one teaching of school and entrance-exam maths, planned around a single learner's board, class and textbook. One week you might walk a Class 9 learner through the new NCERT Ganita Manjari book, help a Class 10 learner prepare for the Standard (041) or Basic (241) paper, and work through integrals and differential equations with a Class 12 learner. Edutara handles the matching and the fee, so your hours go into the maths itself.

  • Class 10 CBSE maths has one syllabus and two papers: Standard (041) and Basic (241).
  • In the Class 12 CBSE paper, calculus carries 35 of the 80 theory marks.
  • ICSE Class 10 adds commercial maths: GST, banking, and shares and dividends.
  • JEE Main maths sets 20 MCQs and 5 numerical-value questions, solved without any calculator.
Requirements

What a strong maths tutor brings to the table

A maths student in college, a graduate who still enjoys a hard integral, a retired maths teacher or a teacher outside the school system can all apply. Edutara looks for real command of the maths and the patience to show each step until it lands.

Command of the textbooks

  • -Comfort with NCERT maths from Ganita Prakash in Class 6 to Mathematics Part I and Part II in Class 12
  • -Working knowledge of NCERT Exemplar Problems for Classes 9 and 10
  • -Fluency in Class 12 calculus: continuity, derivatives, integrals and differential equations
  • -A clear hand with probability, statistics, vectors and linear programming

Feel for board and exam papers

  • -Knowing that the Class 10 Standard paper asks for more applying and analysing than the Basic paper
  • -Familiarity with ICSE, ISC or a state board maths paper such as the UP Board one
  • -For senior learners, the 14 JEE Main maths units or CUET-UG Mathematics / Applied Mathematics (319)
  • -Ease with internal assessment work: lab activities, projects, portfolios and viva-voce

Patience with a stuck learner

  • -Willingness to rework one problem three ways until the method clicks
  • -Calm with a learner who freezes at word problems, proofs or a blank graph
  • -Respect for the learner's own pace, notebook and prescribed book

Kit for online maths classes

  • -A device with camera and microphone, and a connection that holds a video call
  • -A whiteboard app or shared screen for graphs, constructions and line-by-line working
  • -A habit of checking written work held to the camera or sent as a photo

How to Join

From application to your first maths class

Five steps, and the only effort asked of you up front is a short form. No documents are asked for when you apply.

  1. Fill the short form for free

    A few minutes

Mark the maths you teach with confidence: middle-school basics, Class 10 board papers, Class 11 and 12 calculus, or JEE Main and CUET-UG maths.

  2. Read the email with your next steps

An email reaches your inbox after you apply and sets out what happens next with your maths application.

  3. Your maths application is reviewed

Edutara reads what you teach against the classes, boards and exams maths learners are asking for, from Class 6 to Class 12.

  4. Meet a learner whose maths you fit

Edutara puts you in touch with a learner whose need fits your maths, say a Class 10 Basic paper or ISC vectors and 3-D geometry. From that first maths class, paid like all the rest, the learner keeps going with you while the method works for them.

  5. Teach chapter by chapter and log each lesson

Work from the learner's own textbook, log every lesson you teach, and Edutara pays you for each one taught and confirmed.

Applying is free: no joining fee and no deposit. Once you teach, Edutara pays you per lesson.

FAQ

Questions maths tutors ask before applying

Straight answers on classes, papers, entrance exams, online teaching and pay for anyone who wants to teach maths.

Edutara serves learners from Class 1 to Class 12 on CBSE, ICSE / ISC and state boards, so maths requests run from early number work to Class 12 calculus, and you pick the classes you teach. A Class 10 CBSE learner writes the Standard (041) or Basic (241) paper. An ICSE learner writes one 3-hour Mathematics (51) paper of 80 marks, sometimes with log and trig tables. A UP Board Class 10 learner writes a 70-mark paper and earns 30 marks through school-level internal work.

Both share one CBSE syllabus and the same 20-mark internal assessment. The paper design differs. In Standard, 43 marks (54%) test remembering and understanding, 19 (24%) applying, and 18 (22%) analysing, evaluating and creating. In Basic, those shares are 60 marks (75%), 12 (15%) and 8 (10%). A Standard learner needs plenty of multi-step application sums; a Basic learner gains most from secure definitions and routine methods.

Yes, if you know it well. JEE Main 2026 Paper 1 gives maths 20 MCQs and 5 numerical-value questions for 100 marks, with +4 for a correct answer and -1 for a wrong one in both sections, and numerical answers rounded to the nearest integer. An NTA notice of 2 November 2025 confirmed that no calculator of any kind is allowed. CUET-UG 2026 tests Mathematics / Applied Mathematics under code 319, with a common section and then either a Mathematics or an Applied Mathematics section.

Only if you want those classes. CBSE Applied Mathematics in Classes 11 and 12 serves Commerce and Social Science learners, gives financial mathematics 15 marks in each year, and includes a spreadsheet practical with graphs and matrix operations.

ISC Mathematics (860) in Class 12 has an 80-mark theory paper and 20 marks of project work. Section A carries 65 marks, with calculus alone worth 32. The learner then answers either Section B (vectors, 3-D geometry, applications of integrals) or Section C (application of calculus, linear regression, linear programming), so ask which one your learner's school follows before the first class.

At home you sit with the learner and their notebook. Online, the class is a live video call with one learner, from their own syllabus and textbooks: you explain on a shared screen or whiteboard app, and the learner holds working to the camera or shares a photo. Graph work, ICSE ogives and long calculus solutions all travel well this way.

The learner pays Edutara, and Edutara pays you for every lesson you teach and log once it is confirmed. Each class offer states its rate before you accept it, and rates vary from class to class. You never collect money from a learner, and you never pay Edutara anything: there is no joining fee and no charge per lead.

Yes. Engineering, science and maths undergraduates teach maths with Edutara, as do graduates, retired teachers and teachers outside the school system. Class times are agreed learner by learner, and online maths classes fit between lectures.
