What is a Physics tutor job?

A Physics tutor job with Edutara is part-time, one-to-one teaching for a learner who needs physics explained at their own pace. Most of the work sits in Class 11 and 12: turning a chapter such as Electromagnetic Induction or Ray Optics into numericals the learner can solve alone, walking through derivations until they can be written from memory, and keeping the practical record ready for the board practical. Many of the same learners sit JEE Main or NEET-UG, so you teach the exam habits too.

  • Class 12 CBSE physics carries 70 theory marks and 30 practical marks, and you prepare both.
  • Fourteen chapters a year, from Units and Measurements in Class 11 to Semiconductor Electronics in Class 12.
  • Under NTA's 2026 pattern, JEE Main physics is 25 questions worth 100 of the 300 marks, with five numerical-answer questions.
  • Under NTA's 2026 pattern, NEET-UG physics is 45 questions worth 180 of the 720 marks, all compulsory.
  • Lessons follow the learner's own syllabus and NCERT textbooks, at home or on a live video call.

What a strong physics tutor brings

We look for people who can make a hard chapter feel solvable. College students, graduates, retired teachers and teachers outside the school system all apply, with no degree or experience cut-off.

Command of the physics

  1. You can solve Class 11 mechanics and Class 12 electrostatics numericals cleanly and show each step.
  2. You can derive results such as the lens maker's relation or the motional EMF and explain every line.
  3. You know where the units and dimensions check catches a wrong answer before the learner writes it down.
  4. You are at ease with the vectors and elementary calculus that Class 11 kinematics uses from its opening chapters, including scalar and vector products.
  5. You can work a numerical by hand in powers of ten, since neither the CBSE physics paper nor JEE Main allows a calculator and the board paper prints the constants you use.

Board and exam familiarity

  1. You know the CBSE 042 chapter list, or the ISC 861 papers, well enough to plan a term around them.
  2. You can teach the board practical: two experiments, the record, one activity, the project and the viva.
  3. For aspirants, you are at ease with JEE Main numerical-value questions and NEET-UG single-answer MCQs.
  4. You can take a learner through a board practical from setup to graph: balancing a metre bridge to find an unknown resistance, plotting the prism's angle of deviation to read off the minimum, and tracing the I-V curve of a p-n junction diode in forward and reverse bias.
  5. You can set a practice paper in the CBSE Class 12 pattern: 33 compulsory questions in five sections, from assertion-reason items to five-mark long answers.

Patience at the whiteboard

  1. You let a learner attempt a problem first and then find where the reasoning slipped.
  2. You can restart a topic from Class 9 or 10 basics when a Class 12 learner is missing them.
  3. You draw a labelled diagram slowly, the p-n junction or the LCR circuit, and then ask the learner to draw it back from memory.
  4. You check every answer for its unit and its power of ten, gently, until the learner starts doing that check without being asked.
  5. At a home lesson you write in the learner's own notebook, or on a small slate at their desk, so every step, sign and unit you set down stays with them for revision after you leave.

For online lessons

  1. A device with a camera and microphone, and a connection that holds a video call.
  2. Comfort drawing ray diagrams and circuits on a shared screen or a whiteboard app.

How to apply

How you start teaching physics with Edutara

Five steps from the form to your first physics class. No documents are asked for when you apply.

Step 1
A few minutes

Apply with a short form

Tell us your name, email, WhatsApp number and where you live. Your subjects, physics among them, are asked after that. It is free.

Step 2

Read the email with next steps

Right after you apply, an email arrives explaining what happens next and how class offers reach you.

Step 3

Your application is reviewed

Our team reads your application against the physics requests coming in: the class, the board or exam, home or online.

Step 4

Meet a physics learner

Edutara puts you in touch with a learner who needs the physics you teach. At the first class you see how they handle numericals and derivations, and you are paid for that class as for every other.

Step 5

Teach, log and get paid

Carry on from chapter to chapter, log each lesson after it ends, and Edutara pays you for every lesson taught.

FAQ

Questions physics tutors ask us

Straight answers on classes, boards, exams, practical work and pay for physics tutors.

Mostly Class 11 and 12 on CBSE (Physics 042) and ISC (Physics 861), plus state boards. Class 9 and 10 learners need physics too: in CBSE Class 10 science, Natural Phenomena carries 12 marks and Effects of Current 13 marks, so light and electricity requests come in steadily. You tell us which levels you want, and the offers follow that.

Board physics alone is plenty to start. If you are comfortable with exam work, say so in your application. Under NTA's 2026 pattern, JEE Main physics has 20 MCQs and 5 numerical-value questions, marked +4 and -1, with answers rounded to the nearest integer, so a guessed numerical costs marks. NEET-UG is a pen-and-paper paper of 180 compulsory questions in 180 minutes, so its physics MCQs need speed and accuracy above all. Each exam needs its own drills, and you take on aspirants once you feel ready.

The CBSE practical carries 30 marks: two experiments worth 7 each, the record 5, one activity 3, the investigatory project 3 and the viva 5. The record needs at least 8 experiments and 6 activities. You help the learner understand each experiment, such as the metre bridge or the prism minimum-deviation graph, write it up clearly, pick a project, and rehearse viva questions. For ISC, you follow the practical, project and practical-file scheme set out in the board's current syllabus.

Mostly in the steps. The CBSE marking scheme gives a numerical in half marks: one for the formula, one for the substitution, one for the result, and a unit that is asked for carries its own half. A skipped formula line, a missing unit or a wrong power of ten each cost marks. The 2026-27 sample paper keeps the same design, 33 questions ending in three five-mark long answers, with derivations such as Snell's law from Huygens' wave theory.

Often, yes. The CUET (UG) Physics domain test, code 322, follows the NCERT syllabus with 50 compulsory questions in 60 minutes, marked +5 and -1. A learner who knows the Class 12 NCERT chapters is well placed for CUET, and you help them pace the paper and stop guessing.

Yes. On a video call you can explain the theory of each experiment, sketch circuits and ray diagrams on a shared whiteboard, and check readings and graphs the learner holds to the camera or shares as a photo. The free government Virtual Labs, an initiative of the Ministry of Education, include optics, electricity and magnetism, and mechanics labs you can use to demonstrate setups.

People on our team read each request (class, board or exam, chapters, home or online, locality and timing) and offer it to a tutor whose strengths fit. The first class starts real lessons, and if the learner asks for a different tutor at any point, Edutara arranges one free of charge, so every match starts from the learner's needs.

Yes. The work is part-time and you choose the slots you can keep. Many physics tutors are engineering or science students who teach two or three evenings a week and adjust before their own exams.

Every class offer states its rate before you accept it. The learner pays Edutara, and Edutara pays you for every lesson taught and confirmed at the rate on the offer you accepted. You never handle fees from a learner, and you never pay anything to join.

From the learner's own syllabus and textbooks, usually the NCERT textbooks and NCERT Exemplar for CBSE, or the board's prescribed books for ISC and state boards. Chapters CBSE marks as excluded for 2026-27 are left out of the board exam, so you plan around the current curriculum.
