What is a Science tutor job?

A Science tutor job at Edutara means teaching one learner the whole of school science between Class 6 and Class 10. NCERT's Middle Stage books treat biology, chemistry, physics and earth science as one integrated subject, and CBSE carries that approach through Classes 9 and 10. You teach from the learner's own textbook and board, and for an ICSE learner you prepare three separate science papers: Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

  • One tutor carries a learner through physics, chemistry, biology and earth science in the same set of lessons.
  • Class 6 to 8 lessons follow NCERT's Curiosity series, released one class at a time from July 2024 to June 2025.
  • Class 9 moves to the new Exploration textbook from April 2026, while Class 10 keeps its 13-chapter NCERT book.
Requirements

What a strong science tutor brings

We look for people who can move a learner from a magnet experiment in Class 6 to a balanced chemical equation in Class 10, and explain every step on the way with patience.

Command of all three sciences

  • -Confidence across physics, chemistry and biology up to Class 10, from electricity and acids to life processes and heredity
  • -Ease with earth science chapters such as the Earth, Moon and Sun, and the Earth as a system of energy, matter and life
  • -A single strong science also suits ICSE learners, who write Physics, Chemistry and Biology as separate papers

Board and textbook familiarity

  • -Working knowledge of the NCERT Curiosity books for Class 6 to 8 and the Class 9 Exploration textbook
  • -A feel for the CBSE Class 10 paper, with its assertion-reasoning, case-based and long-answer questions
  • -Familiarity with the CBSE practical list, such as the focal length of a concave mirror or the pH of samples
  • -For ICSE learners, the Class 9 base of measurement with Vernier callipers and the screw gauge
  • -Knowing that the QR code printed in an NCERT textbook opens DIKSHA resources a learner can also use offline

Patience with a curious mind

  • -The habit of starting from something the learner has seen, a shadow or a rusting nail, before the formula
  • -Steady encouragement for a learner meeting atoms, cells and circuits for the first time
  • -College students, graduates and retired teachers are welcome, and no degree certificate is asked for

For online science lessons

  • -A device with a camera and microphone, and a connection that holds a video call
  • -A whiteboard app or a shared screen for ray diagrams, circuits and labelled cell structures
  • -Asking the learner to hold written answers up to the camera or send a photo, so every working gets checked

Why science tutors teach with Edutara

Integrated science rewards a tutor who can link a reaction, a circuit and a living cell in one lesson. Here is what science tutors value in the work.

Free

to join, and it stays free

Teach three sciences as one connected subject

The NCERT books from Class 6 to Class 10 keep physics, chemistry and biology side by side, so you teach the links between them, the way the syllabus itself is written.

Direct

payment from the learner

Also part of teaching with Edutara:

  • Guide one learner from Class 6 up to Class 10
  • Coach for both CBSE Class 10 exam phases
  • Science lessons placed around your timetable
  • Home visits, online lessons, or a mix of both
  • Edutara bills the learner while you teach

How to Become a Tutor

From application to your first science lesson

Five steps take you from a short form to teaching a learner the exact chapter they need, with nothing charged to you along the way.

  1. Step 1 of 5A few minutes

    Send the short application form

Tell us who you are and that science is what you teach. Applying is free, and no documents are asked for when you apply.

  2. Step 2 of 5

Read the email with your next steps

Edutara emails you once your application arrives, setting out what happens next for a new science tutor.

  3. Step 3 of 5

    Edutara reviews your application

Your application is read against the science learners Edutara is looking after, by class, board and home or online.

  4. Step 4 of 5

    Meet your science learner

Edutara puts you in touch with a learner whose class, board and science chapters match what you teach. In the first class you find out which chapters they understand and which they only memorised, and it counts as a paid lesson.

  5. Step 5 of 5

Teach, log each lesson, get paid

Teach from the learner's own textbook, log each lesson after you finish it, and Edutara pays you for every lesson taught at the rate on the class offer you accepted.

8 questions answered
  1. Do I have to teach physics, chemistry and biology together?

For a CBSE or NCERT learner in Class 6 to 10, yes: science is one integrated subject that also takes in earth science. ICSE splits science into three papers, so a tutor strong in Physics, Chemistry or Biology can teach that one paper alone.

  2. Which textbooks will I be teaching from?

Class 6, 7 and 8 use NCERT's Curiosity series. Class 9 moves to the new Exploration textbook from April 2026, opening with an introductory chapter and then the cell. Class 10 keeps the 13-chapter NCERT Science book, from Chemical Reactions and Equations to Our Environment. You always follow the book the learner's own school uses.

  3. How is the CBSE Class 10 Science paper marked?

It is a three-hour theory paper of 80 marks plus 20 marks of internal assessment. Chemical Substances and the World of Living carry 25 marks each, Effects of Current 13, Natural Phenomena 12 and Natural Resources 5. For 2026-27, CBSE has listed some chapters, including Heredity and Evolution, that are left out of the year-end exam and credited through internal assessment.

  4. What changes when my learner is on ICSE?

An ICSE learner writes Physics, Chemistry and Biology as Science Papers 1, 2 and 3, each a two-hour paper of 80 marks with 20 marks of practical work. Class 9 builds the base, such as measurement in physics and the language of chemistry, and Class 10 moves on to topics like electricity, mole concept and genetics.

  5. Can I teach science online, and how do practicals work then?

Yes. Online lessons run on a live video call with one learner, from their own syllabus and textbooks. You explain on a shared screen or a whiteboard app, and the learner shares written work as a photo or holds it to the camera. For a practical such as the ray path through a glass prism, you draw the setup and talk through the observations before the learner does it in the school lab.

  6. Can I tutor science while I am still in college?

Yes. College students are welcome to apply, as are graduates, retired teachers and teachers outside the school system. Lessons are part-time and agreed with each learner, so you can fit them around lectures and your own lab work.

  7. Do I need a science degree or a B.Ed to apply?

No degree, B.Ed or years of experience is asked for. What matters is a clear command of Class 6 to 10 physics, chemistry and biology, and the patience to explain a chapter until the learner can explain it back to you.

  8. How does pay work for a science tutor?

The learner pays Edutara, and Edutara pays you for every science lesson you teach and log. Each class offer states its rate before you accept it, and you never collect money from a learner.
