What is a tutor job in Chandigarh?

It means one learner, one tutor, and lessons either at the learner's own address or online. You tell Edutara the classes and subjects you can take and how far across the tricity you are willing to travel. Edutara then looks for a learner who needs exactly that, and puts the two of you in touch. The first class is a trial, so both sides find out whether the pairing works before anyone commits to a routine. Applying is free, and it stays free: no joining amount and nothing charged for being introduced, and every lesson you teach is paid by Edutara.

  • One learner at a time, in the sector where they live, or online from wherever you are.
  • You pick the classes, the boards and the subjects you are willing to take on.
  • The first class is a trial, and the learner decides whether the lessons carry on.
  • Edutara pays you for each lesson, at the rate on the class offer.
  • College students, graduates, postgraduates and retired teachers all use the same form.
Subjects

What the tricity asks for

The same chapter arrives in three question-paper styles here, depending on whether the learner is in the union territory, in Mohali or in Panchkula. Offer the subjects you can teach straight from the learner's own textbook.

Maths, Class 6 to 10

CBSE papers in the union territory's schools, PSEB papers across Mohali, Haryana Board papers in Panchkula.

Science, Class 6 to 10

Physics, chemistry and biology as one subject, the way the syllabus keeps them until the Class 10 board paper.

Physics and Chemistry, Class 11 and 12

Board chapters for students who are sitting an entrance paper in the same year and have no evening to waste.

Maths, Class 11 and 12

Calculus, vectors and probability, where the distance between a board question and an entrance question opens up.

JEE Main and JEE Advanced

For students aiming at the engineering seats the Joint Admission Committee fills in this city, and at PEC through JoSAA.

NEET-UG

Biology, chemistry and physics for students who want a medical seat, with GMCH in Sector 32 on the doorstep.

Accountancy and Business Studies

Class 11 and 12 commerce, in a city that built a government college in Sector 50 around that stream alone.

Punjabi and Hindi

Language papers on both sides of the tricity, and the subject that most often trips up a learner who moved here recently.

Spoken English and IELTS

College students and working adults who want to speak with confidence, and candidates sitting IELTS Academic or General Training.

Requirements

What Edutara looks for in a tutor here

Nothing unusual. Honest command of your subject, a way of reaching the learner, and the patience to teach at the speed of the one learner in front of you.

Group 1

Who can teach

  • College and postgraduate students at Panjab University, PEC or the government colleges, teaching in the hours their own timetable leaves open.
  • Graduates and research scholars who know one subject properly and can explain it at Class 9 speed as easily as at Class 12 speed.
  • Retired school teachers are welcome, while a teacher currently working at a school cannot take private tuition.
  • Working professionals who can hold two or three fixed evening slots a week and keep them.
Group 2

What you need in place

  • A phone you answer, because that is how a learner in Sector 40 or Phase 7 reaches you about a changed timing.
  • For online lessons, a laptop or tablet, a connection that holds through an hour, and a quiet corner.
  • For home lessons, a way of crossing the grid: the cycle tracks, a two-wheeler or the CTU buses all work.
  • A clear idea of the sectors and the towns you will actually travel to, before you are asked.
Group 3

Knowing your board

  • Comfort with the board your learner sits: CBSE inside the union territory, PSEB in Mohali, Haryana Board in Panchkula.
  • Willingness to work from the learner's own textbook and the last few years of that board's question papers.
  • Enough Hindi, Punjabi or English to explain in whichever language the learner actually thinks in.

Meet most of these? Apply, and you will get an email with the next steps.

Perks & Benefits

What teaching in Chandigarh gives you

The tricity packs three school systems, a university town and a full set of entrance exams into a radius you can cross before a lesson starts.

Three boards inside one travel radius

A CBSE learner in the southern sectors, a PSEB learner in Mohali and a Haryana Board learner in Panchkula can sit inside the same week's timetable, because the distances here are short and the roads run straight.

A grid that gives your evening back

Every sector carries its own market, schools and roundabout approach, so a second lesson in the sector next door is a few minutes away. In most cities that gap is spent in traffic.

Teaching alongside your own degree

Panjab University, PEC, PGIMER and the government colleges sit inside the same numbered grid as the learners who need tuition, so an evening slot fits between lectures and lab hours.

Homes that move between three languages

Chandigarh is the shared capital of Punjab and Haryana, and learners here switch between Punjabi, Hindi and English through a single conversation. A tutor who can switch with them settles in quickly.

Exam work that keeps you sharp

Explaining rotational motion or mole concept week after week keeps your own problem-solving awake, which matters while you are still sitting entrance papers or planning postgraduate study.

Application Steps

How you start teaching here

Four steps. The only one that costs you anything is the few minutes the form takes, and it costs you nothing else.

1

Fill the form

Say what you teach, which classes, which boards, and whether you will travel across the tricity or teach online. Free, and short enough to finish in one sitting.

A few minutes
2

An email comes back

Your application reaches Edutara and an email sets out what follows. There are no documents to upload and no interview to sit.

Nothing to prepare
3

Edutara looks for your learner

Someone reads what you sent and looks for a learner whose class, board and part of town line up with what you offered.

4

The first class is a trial

When there is a match, Edutara puts you and the learner in touch and you teach one trial class. If it suits both of you the lessons carry on, and Edutara pays you for each one.

Applying is free, and joining stays free.

Questions tutors in the tricity ask

What applying involves, how you are paid, and who is allowed to take private tuition here.

8 questions answered
  1. I teach at a school in Chandigarh. Can I take private tuition as well?

No. The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 closes that door in **Section 28**: a teacher employed in a school is barred from private tuition and private teaching activity, and that applies whether the school is a government school in the union territory, an aided school or a private one. Edutara therefore takes applications from college students, graduates, postgraduates, people who teach outside the school system, and teachers who have retired from service.

  2. I am still doing my own degree at Panjab University. Can I tutor?

Yes. A postgraduate student in Sector 14 who can explain organic chemistry cleanly is exactly the tutor a Class 12 learner is looking for, and evening slots usually sit outside a university timetable. Choose hours you can genuinely keep, say how many you can hold in a week, and hold them. What makes a learner drift away is a slot that moves every week.

  3. Which boards will I be teaching in the tricity?

Inside the union territory the government schools work to CBSE. Cross into Mohali and the state schools sit with the Punjab School Education Board, whose own headquarters is in Phase 8 there. Cross into Panchkula and the papers are set by the Board of School Education Haryana from Bhiwani. Private schools across all three follow CBSE, ICSE or ISC, so ask the learner which board applies before the first class: the chapter may match while the paper pattern changes.

  4. How am I paid for lessons?

Edutara pays you for every lesson you teach. Each class offer states its rate before you accept it, so a Class 12 physics slot in Panchkula and a Class 5 reading slot in your own sector each come with their own figure, and you say yes only to what suits you. A tutor pays nothing to join or to be introduced.

  5. Do I have to travel to Mohali or Panchkula?

Only if you want to. On the form you say which parts of the tricity you will reach, and that is what Edutara works with. A tutor who stays inside the southern sectors, a tutor who will cross to Phase 7, and a tutor who teaches only online are three different entries on the same form, and all three are useful.

  6. What happens after I send the form?

An email comes back with the next steps, and nothing is asked of you before that: no papers to send in, no interview, no recorded demonstration lesson. After that Edutara looks for a learner who needs your subject, your board and your side of the city, and puts the two of you in touch. The first class is a trial, and the learner decides from there.

  7. Can I teach only online?

Yes. Online suits a tutor living out towards Kharar or Zirakpur, and it suits a learner whose evening is already crowded. You need a laptop or tablet, a connection that holds, and some way of writing where the learner can see it, which for maths and physics usually means a tablet and pen or a small board behind you.

  8. Which subjects are worth offering in Chandigarh?

Begin with what you can teach without preparing. Beyond that, Class 11 and 12 physics, chemistry and maths carry the students working towards JEE Main, NEET-UG and CUET-UG. Accountancy holds up well in a city with a government commerce college of its own. Punjabi and Hindi come up steadily where two states meet. Spoken English and IELTS bring adult learners, who are free at hours a school student is not.
