One tutor, one learner
The lesson is built for one learner, so a question can be asked twice without holding up a room of sixty. Nothing here is taught to a crowd and hoped to land.
Home tuition in Chandigarh sends one tutor to one learner, at your own table in Sector 15 or Manimajra, and online on the evenings the roads are slow. Thousands of Tricity learners have told us their class, board and subject, and we find a tutor who teaches exactly that. You meet that tutor in a trial lesson first.
How it works

It means a tutor comes to your flat or house, in Sector 15 or Manimajra or the southern sectors, and teaches one learner at a time, at an hour the learner picks. Chandigarh makes that easier than most Indian cities, because the sectors sit on a grid with their own markets and schools inside them, so a tutor crossing three sectors is usually a short ride away. The same lesson can happen online when the evening runs short or January fog sits on the roads. You describe the class, the board and the subject; we look for a tutor who teaches that exact combination; the first lesson is a trial, and lessons carry on only if they suit the learner.
Four steps, from your first message to a routine that fits the school week here.
Class, board and subject, the sector or phase you live in, and whether you want the tutor at home or online. If the school is in Chandigarh and the house is in Zirakpur, say both, because that decides which hours can work at all.
A person reads your request and looks for someone who teaches that exact class and board and can reach your part of the city at the hour you asked for. Travel time across the grid is part of the search, so the sector number matters.
The tutor teaches one full lesson, at home or online. Watch how the learner follows it, ask the tutor afterwards what they saw, and decide then. Carrying on is entirely the learner's call.
You and the tutor settle the days and the hour, and Edutara confirms the fee on one invoice. In this city most learners end up fixing lessons after school and before the evening coaching batch.

Chandigarh is read by sector numbers, so tell us yours and the search starts there.
The grid keeps distances short: the marg roads run straight, and a tutor crossing a few sectors is usually ten minutes away. Requests from Mohali and Panchkula reach the same desk, since so many learners live on one side of the boundary and study on the other.
The university side of the city: plotted houses, paying-guest rooms and a long walk of colleges. Panjab University's campus lies in Sectors 14 and 25, and the roads here fill with students every morning.
The oldest housing in the middle of the city, built as small flats above shopping rows, with the Sector 17 plaza and the bus terminal a walk away. Flats are compact, so many lessons here happen at the dining table once dinner is cleared.
The coaching belt. The Tribune reported in June 2026 that around 105 coaching institutes run in Sectors 33, 34 and 36, so many learners here already sit in a batch and come home carrying doubts nobody had time to answer.
The denser southern sectors, where Chandigarh Housing Board flats sit beside Burail, one of the old villages the city grew around. Sector 43's inter-state bus terminal keeps this side connected to Mohali and the towns beyond it.
The last planned sectors before the Mohali boundary, built largely as group housing and co-operative society flats. Students here often attend Chandigarh schools while errands and work pull towards Mohali, so the week runs across both.
An old town the planned city grew around, with the Modern Housing Complex flats beside it and Panchkula a short drive away. Lanes here are narrow and addresses are told by landmark, so a tutor needs the landmark as much as the house number.
The western edge, where older villages meet newer housing and most travel happens by bus. Students here read the city's education pages carefully, because a government school seat and a board choice decide a lot of what follows.
School subjects on four boards, the entrance exams the city's own colleges use, and English for adults.
The stretches of study that learners in the tricity ask about most often.
Not sure which subject to start with? Describe the need and we will look for a tutor who teaches exactly that.
Tell us what you needThe same few rules hold in Sector 8 and in Dhanas, and they are worth reading before you ask for a tutor.
The lesson is built for one learner, so a question can be asked twice without holding up a room of sixty. Nothing here is taught to a crowd and hoped to land.
The first lesson is a trial. You watch the tutor explain the chapter the learner is stuck on, and you decide after that. A change of tutor is free, in every sector of the city.
A tutor at your table in Sector 44, or the same lesson online when January fog slows the roads or the learner has moved into a hostel for a term.
Tutors come from the city's colleges, from recent graduates and retired teachers, and from teachers working outside schools. The RTE Act, 2009, Section 28 keeps serving school teachers out of private tuition, so they are never invited.
Edutara sets the lesson fee for your sector and your subject, bills it by invoice, and pays the tutor for every lesson taught. Tutors pay nothing at all.
Boards, money, timings, and the things that change when you live in one town and study in another.
Yes. The tricity is one place to live in and three places to study in, and a request from SAS Nagar or Panchkula reaches the same desk as one from Sector 22. Tell us the town along with the sector or phase, because that is what decides which tutors can realistically reach you at the hour you want a lesson.
It matters for timings, and later for admissions. The ride home from a Chandigarh school eats the early evening, so lessons often start later than people expect. It matters again in Class 11: GMCH's 2025 prospectus, for one, sets eligibility for the UT Chandigarh pool as Classes 10, 11 and 12 completed in schools in Chandigarh, or parents resident in Chandigarh for the five years before the application. Read the current prospectus before you choose a school for Class 11.
CBSE runs through most of Chandigarh, because the UT has no school board of its own and its government schools are affiliated to CBSE. A few schools follow the Council's exams, among them Strawberry Fields High School in Sector 26, which prepares students for the ICSE and then the ISC or the IB Diploma. Punjab schools in Mohali sit with the Punjab School Education Board, and Panchkula's schools with the Board of School Education Haryana. Say the board when you write in: the syllabus and the paper differ.
The sector grid keeps travel short, so in Chandigarh the lesson fee turns mostly on the class and the subject, and Edutara prices in the extra distance when the tutor comes over from Mohali or Panchkula. Edutara tells you the fee at enrolment, before the first regular lesson, and you pay Edutara on one invoice; Edutara pays the tutor. Tutors pay nothing, ever.
No. The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, Section 28 bars a teacher employed in a school from giving private tuition. So the search runs through students in the city's colleges, graduates, retired teachers, and teachers employed outside schools. If a serving school teacher offers to take tuition at your home, that is worth a careful question.
It depends on what is going wrong. A large batch moves at its own speed, and a learner who is two chapters behind stays behind however many hours are added. One hour a week at home, spent on the exact chapters you could not follow, usually does more than a second batch would. If you are keeping up comfortably, leave the hour for sleep.
CBSE ran the change for the first time in 2026: a main exam from mid-February, and a second exam in May in which a student may improve up to three subjects, with the better score counting. For tuition it means the year has two finishing lines, so the weeks after February deserve a plan of their own. CBSE publishes the 2027 dates itself, so wait for its date sheet before fixing anything.
Yes, and January is the month learners ask. The winter vacation in Chandigarh's schools runs across the turn of the year, and in 2026 the administration extended it to 17 January because of the weather. Fog also slows the evening drive home. An online lesson keeps the routine alive on the days travel is a problem, and it can alternate with lessons at home once the mornings clear.
Whichever one the learner thinks in. Most tricity schools teach in English, while homes here run on Hindi or Punjabi: the 2011 Census recorded Hindi as the mother tongue of most Chandigarh residents, with Punjabi next. Tell us the language you want explanations in. Mention it too if the learner needs help with Punjabi as a school subject, which Punjab requires for Class 10 in schools on its side of the boundary.
A person reads the request, and the search goes straight to someone who teaches that class and board and can reach your sector at your hour. Common combinations move quickly. Rarer ones, like ISC economics or Class 12 Punjabi, get a dedicated search among tutors who teach that exact paper, so the tutor who arrives already knows how it is set and how it is marked.
Write to us through the contact page with your class, subject and area, and we will reply with the next steps.
Chandigarh has no school board of its own. The UT's government schools are affiliated to CBSE and teach the NCERT books, which is why most Chandigarh students assume CBSE first, for the Government Model Senior Secondary Schools and for the Kendriya Vidyalayas in Sectors 31 and 47 alike. A few private schools follow the Council's examinations: Strawberry Fields High School in Sector 26 takes students through the ICSE in Class 10, then the ISC or the IB Diploma.
Cross into Mohali and the default changes. Punjab's schools sit with the Punjab School Education Board, whose office is at Vidya Bhawan in Phase 8, and Punjab requires Punjabi as a subject for Class 10 in schools of every board working in the state, under the Punjab Learning of Punjabi and Other Languages Act, 2008. Cross the other way into Panchkula and the schools answer to the Board of School Education Haryana at Bhiwani. Students living a few kilometres apart can easily sit three different boards.
February and March are when everything lands, and each board picks its own dates inside them. In 2026 CBSE began the Class 10 and Class 12 exams on 17 February and held the new second Class 10 exam from 15 to 21 May. PSEB ran Class 12 from 17 February and Class 10 from 6 March to 2 April. Haryana's board started Class 12 on 25 February and Class 10 on 26 February. Two classmates from the same lane, on two different boards, can therefore live through exam seasons that only half overlap.
For 2027 each board publishes its own date sheet, usually between December and late January, and a September plan works from the pattern of earlier years. Entrance exams sit on top of all this: the NTA calendar for 2026-27, published in September 2026, lists JEE Main session 1 in late January 2027 and marks every date in it tentative, while the NEET-UG and CUET-UG dates arrive in NTA's own notifications. Tuition is planned backwards from those sheets once they are out.
Sector 34 is what people mean in this city when they say coaching. The Tribune reported in June 2026 that around 105 coaching institutes run in Sectors 33, 34 and 36, and that inspection covered fire safety in those buildings, which is worth knowing about a place where a student may spend four hours a day. The belt draws students from Mohali and Panchkula as much as from the UT.
A batch works by moving forward on a timetable, which suits a learner who is keeping up and leaves behind one who is not. Home tuition does the opposite job: it goes back to the chapter that broke, at the speed that learner needs, and it can be scheduled in the gap between school and the batch. Many students here use both, and the useful question before adding an hour is which specific chapters the learner could not follow.
Chandigarh is unusual in holding, inside one small territory, the colleges its own students aim at. Punjab Engineering College in Sector 12 admits to B.Tech through JoSAA on JEE Main ranks, and its seat matrix is split between a Chandigarh (UT) quota and the rest of India. The Joint Admission Committee, Chandigarh fills engineering seats at Panjab University's UIET, at the Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology in Sector 26 and at Dr S.S. Bhatnagar UICET, also on JEE Main ranks.
For medicine, Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32 admits through NEET-UG, and its 2025 prospectus lists 115 of 150 MBBS seats in the UT Chandigarh pool, with eligibility resting on Classes 10, 11 and 12 completed in Chandigarh schools or on the parents' residence in the UT. For general degrees, Panjab University runs its own PU-CET (UG) for B.Sc. (Hons.) and pharmacy, and takes CUET-UG scores for some courses. All of these publish fresh rules each year, and reading them in Class 11 is worth more than reading them in Class 12.
The city was laid out as numbered sectors, each roughly a rectangle with its own market, school sites and inner roads, and the numbers climb from the north down to the south. The first thirty sectors were built at low density on large plots; Sectors 31 to 47 are denser, and the sectors beyond 47 are mostly flats. That plan is why an address in Chandigarh doubles as directions, and why a tutor can often manage two lessons in one evening on the same marg.
Buses carry a good share of the travel: the CTU runs city and tricity routes, and its electric fleet has been growing since 2025, with more buses arriving under the central scheme. Two quirks are worth knowing for a new resident. The original plan skipped the number 13, and in 2020 the administration notified Manimajra as Sector 13 and Dhanas as Sector 14 West, so some addresses are newer than the buildings on them.
Most schools across the tricity teach in English, while a lot of homes run on Hindi or Punjabi. The 2011 Census recorded Hindi as the mother tongue of most Chandigarh residents, with Punjabi second, and reporting on that data described a city comfortable moving between the three. For a learner in Classes 6 to 8, that gap is where science and maths quietly go wrong: the concept is understood in one language and examined in another.
A home tutor can work in the language the learner thinks in and then walk the same idea back into the words the paper will use, which is hard to do in a batch. Language turns up as a subject too. Punjab requires Punjabi for Class 10 in its schools, so a student moving from a Chandigarh sector to a Mohali phase may find a new subject on the timetable, and adults in the tricity's offices often ask for spoken English or IELTS for themselves.
Send the class, the board, the subject and your sector or phase, and say whether you want the tutor at home or online.
What to expect
Begin with one trial lesson and continue only if the tutor suits the learner. After that, a single Edutara invoice covers the lessons.
