I am still in college. Can I apply to teach?
Yes. A second-year student from a Matunga or a Powai campus often remembers the Class 10 chapters more clearly than somebody who left them behind years ago. Put down the subjects you are sure of, the classes you can take and the hours you have free. Since you set your own hours, a class can sit after lectures or on a Sunday morning.
Can a school teacher take private tuition in Mumbai?
Somebody currently employed at a school cannot. **Section 28** of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 bars a serving school teacher from private tuition anywhere in India, and Edutara follows it. Retired teachers, people teaching at a coaching class or a college, and anyone outside the school system are welcome to apply.
How far will I have to travel for a class?
Only as far as you agree to. You name the stretch you can manage, so a tutor who says Western line between Andheri and Borivali hears about classes in that stretch. Crossing this city on a weekday evening is what makes tutoring fall apart, so it pays to be strict with yourself about the map while you fill the form.
What do the classes pay?
The fee is settled between you and the learner before the classes begin, and it usually turns on the class, the subject and how far you travel. Edutara takes no cut of it and does not collect it. Whatever a family pays Edutara is a separate matter and has nothing to do with what you charge.
Do I need teaching experience to start?
No. What a family asks about first is whether you know the syllabus and whether you can explain it to somebody who does not follow it yet. If you have taken a younger brother or sister through a board exam, you already know most of the work.
Can I teach online instead of going to homes?
Yes. Say so on the form and it becomes part of what Edutara matches you on. An online class takes the travelling out altogether, which is why it suits people who are working through the day and can only teach late, or who live at one end of the city and study at the other.
Which boards should I say I can teach?
The ones whose textbook you can open and teach from tomorrow. SSC splits Class 10 maths into Algebra and Geometry papers while CBSE keeps it whole, ICSE asks for longer written answers, and IGCSE and the IB Diploma run on their own assessment. A board you have never taught shows itself in the first class, so claim only what you can hold.
