The three exams

JEE, NEET-UG and CUET-UG explained

Each exam opens a different set of college seats and tests a different mix of subjects. Here is who conducts each one, what it covers, where its score leads, and the Edutara page that goes deeper.

Engineering and technology degrees

JEE Main and JEE Advanced

JEE Main is a computer-based test conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Its rank leads to the NITs, IIITs and other centrally funded institutes through JoSAA counselling. The top performers in JEE Main go on to JEE Advanced, organised each year by one of the IITs, and the JEE Advanced rank decides IIT seats.

  • Conducted by: NTA for JEE Main, an IIT chosen each year for JEE Advanced
  • Subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics
  • Syllabus: Class 11 and Class 12

MBBS, BDS and AYUSH degrees

NEET-UG

NEET-UG is the single entrance test for undergraduate medical courses in India, also conducted by the NTA. The paper covers Physics, Chemistry and Biology at Class 11 and 12 level, and Biology, split into Botany and Zoology, carries half the marks. The Medical Counselling Committee allots All India Quota and central institute seats on the rank, and each state runs its own counselling for state quota seats.

  • Conducted by: NTA
  • Subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany and Zoology)
  • Syllabus: Class 11 and Class 12

Undergraduate admission at central and participating universities

CUET-UG

CUET-UG is the common entrance test the NTA conducts for undergraduate admission to the central universities and to the state, deemed and private universities that accept its score. An aspirant picks the language papers, domain subjects and General Aptitude Test that the chosen university and course ask for. The NTA declares the score, and each university then runs its own admission on it.

  • Conducted by: NTA
  • Papers: languages, domain subjects, General Aptitude Test
  • Mode: computer-based

How the tuition works

How Edutara prepares an aspirant, one to one

Every aspirant gets a tutor of their own and a plan written for their exam, their class and the chapters they find hardest.

  1. 1

Tell us the exam and where you stand

Name the exam, the class (11, 12 or a dropper year), the board and the subjects that need the most work. Add the coaching or school timetable too, so the classes fit around it.

  2. 2

A tutor for the exact subject

Edutara matches a tutor who teaches that subject at that level: organic chemistry for a JEE aspirant, Biology for NEET-UG, a domain subject or the General Aptitude Test for CUET-UG. An aspirant can have one tutor per subject, at home or online.

  3. 3

A first class built on the weakest topic

The first class starts on the topic costing the aspirant the most marks, so the way the tutor explains is clear from day one. Whenever the fit feels wrong, at any stage of the preparation, Edutara finds another tutor free of charge.

  4. 4

A plan built from the syllabus

The tutor maps the Class 11 and 12 chapters onto the exam syllabus and works through them one by one: the concept, solved examples, timed questions and past papers released by the exam body. Every mistake goes into an error log, and the next class starts from it.

  5. 5

Mock papers and revision in the final months

Closer to the exam, classes move to full-length papers under the clock, a review of each one and revision of the weak chapters it reveals. Board exam preparation runs alongside, since Class 12 marks also count towards IIT and NIT eligibility.

Edutara sets the tuition fee for the class, the subject and the city, and confirms it at enrolment, before the first class. The learner pays Edutara, and Edutara pays the tutor for every lesson.

Questions aspirants ask

It follows the course you want. JEE Main, and then JEE Advanced, lead to B.Tech and B.E. at the IITs, NITs, IIITs and other engineering institutes. NEET-UG leads to MBBS, BDS and the AYUSH degrees. CUET-UG leads to undergraduate courses in arts, science and commerce at the central universities and the other universities that accept its score. Many engineering aspirants also sit their state entrance test beside JEE Main.

Both exams draw on the Class 11 and Class 12 syllabus, so most aspirants start in Class 11, as the first chapters are taught at school. Starting in Class 12 or in a dropper year works too: the tutor first checks which Class 11 chapters need rebuilding, then plans the rest of the year around them.

Some tutors teach two subjects at entrance level, most often Physics with Mathematics or Physics with Chemistry. Many aspirants choose a specialist for each subject, and Edutara matches a separate tutor for each, so every subject has its own schedule and its own progress record.

Yes. The tutor follows the institute's schedule and works on what a batch class leaves open: doubts from the week's lectures, chapters the aspirant has fallen behind on, and test papers reviewed question by question.

Both. A home tutor comes to the learner's address in the cities Edutara serves, and online classes run one to one over video from anywhere in India. Many aspirants mix the two, for example home classes on weekdays and an online class on a test weekend.

Edutara sets the fee for the class, the subject and the city, and confirms it at enrolment, before the first class. The learner pays Edutara by invoice and Edutara pays the tutor for each lesson, so the tutor collects nothing from the learner directly.

On the conducting body's own website: jeemain.nta.nic.in for JEE Main, jeeadv.ac.in for JEE Advanced, neet.nta.nic.in for NEET-UG and cuet.nta.nic.in for CUET-UG. The tutor sets the preparation calendar by those notices as each one comes out.

Ask for a different tutor at any time and Edutara finds one free of charge. The new tutor picks up from the same syllabus plan and the same error log.
